At its Emergency Delegates Conference at the Trade Fair Center in Accra, the NPP, has decided after a hot debate that, where there are more than three (3) contestants for nomination as Presidential Candidate, a Special Electoral College shall cast their vote by secret ballot for the first three (3) contestants to be shortlisted. Peacefm’s Reporter, Yaw Obeng Manu, who is at the function, reports that the Special Electoral College, shall comprise the following:
the National Council, the National Executive Committee, the Regional Executive Committee, the National Council of Elders, Members of Parliament, 3 Representatives of Each of the Special Organs of the party, Past National Officers and 10 Representatives of External Branches.
Others include, Founding Members during the Registration of the party at the EC and all NPP Card-bearing Ministers when the party is in government. Each Delegate is entitled to a single vote. It is believed that this decision was arrived at following the backlash the party received from the public when 17 Presidential aspirants sought to woo delegates to represent the party as its flagbearer in last years general elections.
