NPP UK and Ireland Salutes Kofi Asare

and the people of Akwatia

The New Patriotic Party, UK and Ireland Branch would like to congratulate the Dr. Kofi Asare, the MP elect for Akwatia for winning the seat on behalf of NPP. Dr. Asare bagged an enviable 17,900 votes in collated results from the December 7, 2008 election and those of Tuesday, August 18 rerun in six polling centres.

The UK branch would also like to thank the local party executives and the good people of Akwatia for their sterling job. This election has shown how the people of Akwatia have been discerning in realizing that the only party which offers choice and good value for money is the NPP. This choice is evidenced in the quality of governance that the party showed from 2001-2008. Throughout the weeks leading to the re-run of the 6 polling stations there were a series of provocative actions from the NDC and its hooligans and it only took the cool heads of the NPP and its leadership to manage their way round this quest for violence and intimidation. Akwatia has once again demonstrated the confidence that the people of Ghana have in the leadership of the NPP. The Party in government demonstrated good fiscal policies which put Ghana firmly on the path to economic stability, even in the face of the fluctuating world oil prices. The Party in government also demonstrated its commitment to effective and compassionate social programmes aimed at investing in the people of Ghana. These policies manifested themselves in the educational and health reforms as well as micro financing which put money in the pocket of the average Ghanaian. The NDC in government has proved to be incapable of replicating the achievements of the NPP and have resorted to undoing the good work of the NPP. The people of Akwatia have seen through their lies and poor performance. The NDC in government has taught us one thing - that if you cannot achieve what you promised, you re-define it. It is our belief that come 2012, the people of Ghana will see through them and vote them out of power. The President has proved to be weak and incapable of being the President for all as he promised.

As a branch we call on the Party to consolidate the gains in Akwatia and replicate this effort in the Chereponi bye elections to replace the late Hon. Doris Seidu and Insha Allah the victory will be ours.

The NPP UK would finally like to thank the Ghanaians in UK and Ireland for their continued support and their words of encouragement, especially in the run up to this election re-run. We would also like to thank the media here in UK especially Rainbow, Makora, WBLS, Kasapa, Hot, OBE TV, Radio Focus and VOAR for their role in educating Ghanaians about political development in Ghana. We thank you all
