NPP UK should tell us why on Housing, the NPP Failed*

In two seperate press statements issued by the NPP UK and Ireland Branch and
their Youth Wing on 12 July 2010, the NPP continues to shamelessly portray
how proud they are that they committed ONLY "30 million" new cedis to
Housing for a Ghanaian population well over 23 million people. That amount is
less than $25 million dollars and that's all they could do for 8 years after
promising on Page 23 of their election 2000 Manifesto that they'd launch "a
special Housing the People Scheme". NPP must be ashamed of this terrible
failure.

Also, the laughable 3500 homes they claim they built over 8 years is just
equally shameful.

Somebody please wake NPP from their slumber. Tell NPP Ghana needs up to
500,000 homes to significantly reduce the housing shortage, not the pitiable
3500 homes they claim they built after 8 years of their selfish, corrupt
property grabbing tenure. They were busy grabbing properties for themselves
while the average Ghanaian lacked decent accomodation. Now that the new NDC
Government wants to correct that collosal NPP neglect of the Ghanaian
people's Housing needs, they in the NPP are up in arms against the NDC
administration, shamelessly kicking against a project that can potentially
change the face of Housing in Ghana.
As for their claim of supporting the private sector to build 40,000 homes
annually, they've forgotten it was during the first NDC Government that the
private real estate sector began building homes for sale to Ghanaians.
Again, it appears the NPP is seeking to claim credit for the private real
estate sector Housing that only started and took a foothold for the first
time in Ghana under former President Rawlings' NDC Government. They want to
claim credit for everything that goes good in Ghana, but they are never
ready to claim credit for what they did wrong.
Let me tell them what President Atta Mills' NDC administration is ready to
do: President Atta Mills' government is ready to build up to 200,000 homes
over a five year period, starting with the first 30,000 homes for the
security services. The $1.5 billion dollars required for the first 30,000
homes has already been secured by the Korean company. STX, the Korean
comopany is a global multi national company with an established
reputation--unlike the fake barber shop NPP loans from the fake CNTCI and
IFC. The NDC supports the efforts of Ghanaian real estate companies. If
indegenous Ghanaian companies can successfully go to the financial markets
to raise billions of dollars for massive housing projects like STX Korea is
undertaking to do, we in the NDC party will support their efforts and urge
Government to provide sovereign guarantees to those Ghanaian companies also.
But until such time, Ghanaians cannot wait forever to get decent housing the
way the NPP wishes. Nor is the NDC ready to make the mistake of neglecting
the good people of Ghana like the NPP did during their 8 years in
government.

The NPP is just a shameless bunch of politicians. No wonder they have the
shameless state property grabber,Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey leading this
shameless chorus. After 8 years in power, where is the NPP's promised "Special
Housing the Peoples Scheme"?

They must allow President Atta Mills and the NDC to do what the NPP could
not do for Ghanaians. Decent Housing is just one of the things the NPP
failed to give Ghanaians, but President Atta Mills will strive to provide
Housing for Ghanaians.
