The New Patriotic Party has condemned government’s reaction to the arrest of a Ghanaian lady in London for trafficking cocaine.
Officials at Heathrow airport arrested the Ghanaian suspect last week for carrying a large consignment of cocaine weighing 12.5kgs.
Government has clarified that the suspect was not travelling with a diplomatic passport contrary to earlier reports.
According to the communications minister, Edward Omane Boamah, the suspect has no links with the first family.
But the NPP has accused government of concealing some vital information.
Newly elected deputy communications director for the party, Anthony Karbo in an interview with Starr News Monday stated that the government must explain to Ghanaians how the lady went through the Kotoka International Airport without being suspected of carrying drugs.
“This lady in question and how she was able to get out of this country with such huge quantities of drugs without the eagle eye of our security agencies and also because of reports that the lady went through the VVIP section at the airport, clearly tells us that there is something amiss in this matter, Karbo told host Kweku Obeng Adjei”.
Karbo also challenged the government to provide the actual picture of the lady suspect to quell all rumours and speculations.
“The details provided by the minister on his facebook page is inadequate...if government wants to put a definite rest to this matter, once government has been able to access the passport of the person...definitely there would be a picture.
“Government should put out the picture of this person so that we are all clear in our minds, there is no ambiguity, there is no unwanted accusation of people who clearly do not warrant that accusation,” Karbo added.
