NPP and NDC elect candidates for Talensi by-election

Mr Thomas Duanaab Awuni, 51, emerged victorious in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Talensi Constituency election for a contestant for an impending by-election, following the resignation of the incumbent NPP Member of Parliament.

Mr Robert Nachinab Mosore Doameng resigned to assume his new position as Paramount Chief of Tongo.

Mr Awuni, Accountant, won with 182 votes from the 418 delegates.

Mr John Obeng, National Organiser of the NPP, congratulated all the contestants and urged members of the party to unite behind the victor.

He said more work is needed for the elected candidate to win the parliamentary seat for the party and urged the losers to team up with the winner to strategise for victory on July 7.

Mr Robert Alibo and Mr William Zoogah, the defeated candidates assured the party of their support saying they would work with the victor for the good of the NPP.

Meanwhile, Mr Benson Tongo Baba, 67, formally with Ghana Olympics Committee, also emerged as the winner in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) primary emerging with 351 votes cast by 698 delegates.

Mr Baba, who lost in the last 2012 parliamentary elections, was in the race with Mr Edward Awonoore, Mr Charles Buarzor Bazinwomit, Mr James Ature, and Mr Rockson Aditiba.

Mr Baba said he would create jobs for the youth and urged all to rally behind him for success in the election.
