Supporters of the governing New Patriotic Party(NPP) and the largest opposition party, National Democratic Congress(NDC) clashed at the launch of District Road Improvement Project (DRIP) equipment in the Wassa East constituency of the Western Region.
Reports say, supporters of the two biggest political parties in Ghana both wanted to paste their posters on the equipment which resulted in the fight.
In a video shared on social media platform X by EDHUB, the supporters are seen physically assaulting each other in a free-for-all fight.
A similar incident occurred last week in Salaga, the capital of the Salaga South Constituency in the Savannah Region where supporters of NDC and NPP sustained various degrees of injury after engaging in a free-for-all fight following the arrival of the DRIP equipment in the constituency.
The confrontation ensued between the two parties when their supporters went to usher in the equipment into Salaga from Damongo.
In August this year, Member of parliament for Salaga South Constituency Hajia Zuweira Ibrahima, while on a campaign tour in the Klor zone of the constituency, stated that the DRIP equipment were procured from the MPs share of the District Assembly Common Fund and that the equipment have been handed over to Members of Parliament by President Akufo-Addo.
“All 275 MPs told government that he should use our share of the common fund in arrears to procure road construction equipment.”
“Government heeded to our calls and procured the equipment. President Akufo-Addo called us and handed over the equipment to us and Insha Allah, the day the equipment will arrive, I shall follow to come and hand them over to you” she emphasized.
