The Brong-Ahafo Regional Communications Directorate of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Wednesday announced it had boycotted all media and political engagements on Angel FM, a Sunyani-based radio station.
This extreme action, according to party officials has been necessitated by what they described as “unprofessional and open biases targeted at the NPP radio panelists and serial callers by the radio station”, which is a subsidiary of the Angel Group of Companies.
A statement issued by the Directorate in Sunyani, and signed by Mr. Seth Asare-Bediako, the Communication Director and copied to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) expressed disappointment with the “gross disrespect and deliberate maligning of government officials and the entire NPP party structure in the region” by the station.
“Arbitrary and dictatorial tendencies exhibited by the morning show host and production crew of the Angel FM in the morning political show is unprofessional and unethical”, it stated.
“Due to these and other reasons, the Directorate has directed all NPP officers, government appointees, various spokespersons, radio and TV communication team members, and our serial callers to cease media and political engagements on Angel 92.3 FM with immediate effect”, it added.
The statement, however, stressed the Directorate and the Party’s readiness to work with all media houses who give a fair and balanced platform to all political parties in the region and beyond.
