A national communications team member of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Uncle Ebo, has said some top officials within the elephant family, caused Nana Akufo Addo’s defeat in the 2008 and 2012 presidential elections.

Speaking in an interview with Nyankonton Mu Nsem at the launch of Youth for Action (YOFA)-a volunteer youth group within the party, he said, Nana Addo lost both the 2008 and 2012 presidential elections because of machinations by some officials who purposely plotted the defeat of the former attorney general, with assistance from the ruling government.

Uncle Ebo who doubles as the national organiser for volunteers 2016 said, they will ensure that Nana Akufo Addo wins the election in the first round with more than 54 percent.

According to him, there have been various predictions both from abroad and within this country predicting victory for Nana Akufo Addo, and that is what we the volunteers are going to ensure it becomes a reality.

He said, "I have toured the whole country, and I can tell you that Nana Akufo will win more than 54 percent in this election.'' When asked if the party was sure of one touch victory for the presidential candidate who is making his third attempt at the presidency, he said, "Nana Addo has always won the elections by a one touch victory, but because we don’t guard and protect our votes, the one touch always becomes a mirage…In 2008 Nana Addo won the election in the first round, but the machinations by some members within the party caused his defeat. People within the party caused Nana Addo to lose that seat because they were not feeling comfortable with Nana Addo.’’

He, however, failed to mention the names of those he alleged to have caused Nana Addo’s defeat in the previous presidential elections he [Nana Addo] contested for political reasons.

Uncle Ebo stated further that when the party started complaining about the change in figures from the electoral results, Dr. Tony Aidoo came out to say that their representatives that came to witness the process focused their attention on drinking wine.

"We [NPP] started complaining in 2012 about the change in the figures for the election, but Dr. Tony Aidoo came to say that while we [NDC] were tabulating the results, your men were drinking wine.’’

He quizzed, "so who were those drinking wine’’ Why was the person drinking wine at that crucial moment? I wasn’t drinking wine, so who was drinking wine? Uncle Ebo stressed that the volunteers for the 2016 elections would leave no stone unturned in ensuring that, Nana Addo is declared the president after the December 7, 2016, results are declared.

"We [volunteers] have pledged to ensure that no individual rigs this election. We have also pledged to prevent members of our party from supporting those who want to rig the election. That is what volunteerism is about.’’

He also indicated that the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) has never won an election in this country, rather, they have consistently rigged every election.

"The defeat of the NPP in Ghana were planned machinations by the NDC and that has been confirmed by the former first lady, Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings.’’
