The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has called on the Ghana Police Service to arrest and prosecute members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) who allegedly assaulted a TESCON member at Christian Service University College.

The National Communications Director for NPP, Richard Ahiagba, in a press conference in Kumasi on Monday, June 24, 2024, called for swift police action to serve as a deterrent to others.

"The victim was innocent and did not provoke the attack, and we will not tolerate such brutality," Mr. Ahiagba stated.

"We demand that the police take this matter seriously and apply the law to ensure justice."

Mr. Ahiagba also cautioned against electoral violence in the 2024 polls, emphasizing the need for peaceful and democratic elections.

"We will not allow any form of intimidation or violence to undermine the democratic process," he stressed.

Background:

A second-year student of the Christian Service University sustained a head injury after he was allegedly assaulted by some supporters of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Kumasi.

The incident happened at a public lecture organized to mark the school’s 50th anniversary addressed by former President and 2024 flagbearer of the NDC, John Mahama.

The victim, Nana Boakye, who is said to be an organizer of the NPP’s students’ wing, TESCON, is alleged to have retorted to Mr. Mahama’s description of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign as a “concert party” in his speech.
