Director of Communications for the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Solomon Nkansah says the ‘noise’ being made by political pressure group, ‘Let My Vote Count Alliance’ to have certain personalities dropped from the EC’s Steering Committee will not change the 2016 election results to favor the opposition NPP.
He holds the firm belief that his party, the ruling NDC, has already won the upcoming polls and is not interested in influencing the membership of those serving on the Electoral Commission’s Steering Committee in order to manipulate the system to win the upcoming elections on November 7, 2016.
Political pressure group, The Let My Vote Count Alliance (LMVCA), expressed deep worry over the strange action by the EC in the selection of members of a "Steering Committee".
The group, in a statement issued on Tuesday and copied to Madam Charlotte Osei, EC Chair, claimed the NDC is influencing the electoral body in an inappropriate manner and asked that the EC dissolves the ‘NDC-Biased Steering Committee’ with immediate effect.
According to the group, the inclusion of Dr. Karl Mark Arhin who was nominated by National Service Scheme as its representative to the committee makes it a partisan one since the nominee is a card-bearing NDC member who worked as a Deputy Director of International Affairs for the Party.
The pressure group also had issues with the inclusion of Mr. Francis Azumiah from the Peace Council and Lawyer Joe Whittal from CHRAJ to serve on the EC’s Steering Committee.
But the NDC Communications Officer on Okay Fm’s Wednesday edition of Ade Akye Abia Morning Show stated that the NPP pressure group knows their party has already lost the 2016 elections and is, therefore, striving to find excuses for its eventual defeat.
“NDC doesn’t support wrongdoings, and we know we will win the 2016 general elections; so we won’t play any role in EC (task force committee) in order to win the elections. Any time the election will be held, the NDC will win…it is only NPP crying foul because they know they can’t match the NDC and so they are looking for an excuse when they lose the 2016 elections,” he asserted.
He added that, even if the NPP pressure group had not raised the alarm on Dr. Karl Mark Arhin's inclusion, the NDC would have demanded he resigns if he (Arhin) had officially informed the party because it is a conflict of interest situation.
“Dr. Arhin should have known that he is a politician and could not accept that offer, but I don’t know whether he is not experienced;” stating that Dr. Arhin has resigned and has been replaced by another person from National Service Scheme (NSS).
