Ga Paramount Stool Dzasetse, Nii Yaote Oto Ga II, installed in 2005 with the authority to nominate and select an appropriate candidate for the installation of Ga Mantse has taken a serious swipe at the NPP-led government for stoking the ongoing confusion that has hit the Ga Stool.
According to Nii Yaote Oto Ga II, NPP-led governments have capped for itself a history of interfering with the installation of a Ga Mantse anytime they assume power.
“We as Ga Paramount stool Dzaase as representatives of the Ga State do not interfere in any way with other tribes or clans when they install their chiefs. And we will not. But it appears that the NPP government at any time it assumes power in Ghana, interferes with the installation of a Ga Mantse and determines who should be the Ga Mantse,” Nii Yaote Oto Ga II said.
Nii Yaote Oto Ga who was speaking at a press conference held at the Veteran Administration Hall in Accra also accused former President Kufuor’s administration of influencing the unlawful installation of the late Dr. Jo Blankson as Ga Mantse in February 2007.
“We recalled with much pain and dismay the installation of the late Dr. Jo Blankson as the Ha Mantse under Former President Kufour’s administration with armored cars, mobile missile launchers, water cannons and teeming armed policemen who invaded Ga Mashie to have Dr. Jo Blankson installed. We also recalled the regrettable situation with the Ya Na of the Dagbon state also under the NPP” Nii Yaote Oto Ga stated.
According to Nii Yaote, the Ga State knows no political colour, charging the NPP government and its operatives to respect the Stool and Ga state.
This comes on the heels of last week’s installation of another Ga Mantse, Nii Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, even though Nii Adama Latse had been gazetted as Ga Mantse. In the midst of the chaos, a third claimant to the stool also emerged in the person of Nii Tackie Oblie from Abola Piam We.
Since the death of Boni Nii Amugi II in December 2004, there has been a lingering dispute over who is the rightful successor.
