NPP is not aware Kufour is attending Mahama’s Inauguration – Sir John

General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, says it has not come to the party’s notice that former President Kufour will attend President Mahama’s inauguration slated for Monday, January 7.

The National Executive Council of the NPP on Wednesday announced that the party will not participate in the ceremony and cautioned supporters to respect the party’s decision.

Showing up at the inauguration ceremony will undermine our case at the Supreme Court, the party stressed in a statement.

But the spokesperson for the former president, Frank Agyekum had earlier confirmed in a statement that his boss will attend the ceremony.

Meanwhile, Mr. Afriyie otherwise known as Sir John speaking to Citi Eye Witness News on Thursday reiterated that the decision to boycott the inauguration ceremony is binding on all members of the party, including MPs.

“I have not yet been directed or inform as to a change in that position, I did not head H. E. Kufour say he will attend, I have not read any statement that he will attend and let’s wait until I have a full briefing of the statement and I will be able to say he will attend and in what capacity, but for now the party’s position is very clear, no member of the NPP shall attend the inauguration”, he emphasized.
