NPP is the only true national party in Ghana – Kufuor

Former President John Agyekum Kufuor insists that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is the only “true national party” in the country.

“We encompass people from all over the country, all religion, all tribes and all ages and generations,” he told TV3’s Edward Kwabi at the party’s headquarters on Thursday, August 22, 2013 when the NPP marked its 21st anniversary.

The only NPP leader to have led the party to power also insisted that the party is the biggest in the country.

“We were born big,” he emphasized, taking inspiration from their totem, the elephant. “We are the elephant party,” he added.

“Even with that we keep on improving in our stature on the electoral field and the society of Ghana,” he observed.

Ex-President Kufuor, who was in office between 2001 and 2009, said the NPP has been together because it thrives on “the principle theme of human-centered activity”.

On the impending election petition verdict, the former president observed that the Supreme Court is expected to give “just” judgement.

“Because it is the Supreme Court It is expected to give a highly reasoned judgement that will command the respect across the board of all the people of Ghana.”

Ex-President Kufuor joined hundreds of party supporters to mark the anniversary. An anniversary lecture has been scheduled to be held at the Osu Presbyterian Church Hall on Thursday evening.
