NPP members urge Kufuor to form a new party

The simmering confusion in the New Patriotic Party has taken an ugly twist as a section of the party has called on former President John Agyekum Kufuor to break away from the already troubled opposition party to form a new one.

According to NPP stalwarts canvassing support for this move, the party’s 2016 flagbearer and his aficionados have targeted the former President for vilification and have succeeded in dragging his name in the mud.

Their call follows an accusation by NPP Member of Parliament for Assin Central and an Akufo-Addo loyalist, Kennedy Agyepong, that former President Kufuor; his Chief of Staff, Kwadwo Mpiani and National Chairman and General Secretary are behind the murder of the party’s Upper East regional Chairman, Mahama Adams.

Leading the agenda to get former President Kufuor to ditch the NPP and form a new party is a foremost member of the party in the Bekwai constituency and a columnist, Katakyie Kwame Opoku Agyemang.

Reacting to the self-acclaimed financier of the NPP and foul mouth legislator, Katakyie Kwame Opoku Agyemang, a known Alan fanatic, wrote on his facebook wall that “is former president Kufuor now a murderer? Oh my God! I think Kufuor must leave the NPP and form his own political party.”

Citing how former President of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo sidestepped his own party to support an opposition party, the national coordinator of the defunct Get-Alan-Kyeremanten elected, stated “Obasanjo tore his party card on a national television and the candidate he supported won the Nigerian elections.”

The Assin Central MP went berserk last week on Oman Fm’s “Boiling Point” alleging that former President Kufuor, Kwadwo Mpiani, Paul Afoko and Kwabena Agyapong masterminded last week's acid attack on the party’s Upper East regional chairman, Mahama Adams.

Mahama Adams had acid poured on him by two assailants last week Wednesday, and was confirmed dead the following day at the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital. He has since been buried.

While investigation is still ongoing with news that the Police have arrested a brother of NPP’s National Chairman, Paul Afoko, who is on record to have called for annihilation of Gas and Ewes said, "Because of Nana Addo, you will kill somebody...if the police do not deal with the matter well...because of what has happened, the NDC people are happy so they will cover it...Then Afoko can't go out. Kwabena Agyepong can't go out. ...I swear God. Nobody can stop us in the party. In that case, we shall collapse the party...if no justice, no peace, I am telling you...Kwabena Agyepong will face the full rigours of the law. Afoko will face it...if they don't face it...you mark it on the wall. I am challenging them. Kwadwo Mpaini, I hope you are now satisfied that Adams is dead...yes, I am accusing them. They are behind it. Kwadwo Mpiani, I hope you are satisfied...Kwabena Agyepong you are satisfied. Afoko you are satisfied. You will never have peace of mind. It won't work, I tell you. Kwabena Agyepong, who is he? Who is Afoko? I brought Kwabena Agyepong. I will show him we brought him...Kwadwo Mpaini and his boss, I have said it; nobody deserves to die in this party. We have helped them to come to power. They have made money which they are now using to kill people...Kwadwo Mpiani's bodyguard said he will kill me...I say we will fight...aaaahhhhh.... Kwadwo Mpaini, you and your boss, you are satisfied. You have ruled...we are not afraid of anybody."

His comment has ignited reactions from loyalists of former President Kufuor. Former Chief of Staff, Kwadwo Mpiani, although has declined responding to the acerbic tongue MP, said he is talking to his lawyers for a possible legal action.

A former deputy Greater Accra regional communications director of the NPP, Mike Ampong, whose appointment as deputy national communication director was recently reversed by Nana Akufo-Addo and his elements, is reported to have filed a lawsuit against Kennedy Agyepong for his comments regarding the death of Mahama Adams.

A youth group calling itself Asante Youth Association has also chided Kennedy Agyepong for mudslinging former President Kufuor and Kwadwo Mpiani and has also called for his arrest to assist in investigations.

Meanwhile, Katakyie Kwame Opoku Agyemang said he will be the foremost supporter if the former President forms a new political and has also vowed to rally support for the ‘new’ party.

He wrote, “I'll be his number one supporter if Kufuor forms a new political party today. We are fed up with this nonsense. How could a whole MP insult all NPP members, accuse a former president whose record the NPP has been campaigning on, as a murderer, yet, the flag bearer and other leading members of the party are silent? How? Prez Kufuor, please form a new political party and let's see who is who.”
