Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Korle Klottey chairman, Nii Noi Nortey who is contesting the upcoming December 7 election as an independent candidate, has asked the party not to entertain any expectation of him returning to the party’s fold.

According to him, his decision to go independent was carefully considered and has the massive support of the constituents.

The Campaign Team of the 2016 Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has called on the former , Nii Noi Nortey to rescind his decision to go independent in the impending poll.

The team wants the former party chairman to withdraw his nomination forms filed at the Electoral Commission of Ghana to contest the Korle Klottey parliamentary seat as an independent candidate.

Stephen Asamoah Boateng, a member the NPP 2016 campaign team, openly made this call when he accompanied Nana Akufo-Addo to address artisans at the Accra Arts Center on Wednesday, October 5, 2016.

Nii Noi decided to go independent after he felt that the NPP had given him a raw deal following his loss to Philip Addison in the party’s parliamentary primary.

He had earlier emerged victories in the primary but a court decision over what party members termed a botched election compelled the national executives to re-run the polls.

Philip Addison who lost the previous election prevailed but Nii Noi felt he was treated unfairly in the contest he was heavily tipped to emerge victorious.

After analyzing the circumstances that led to his loss in the election, he decided to contest the Korle Klottey seat as an independent candidate.

Asamoah Boateng told the crowd that the party stands a greater chance of winning the Korle Klottey seat if the former party chairman returns home.

Asamoah Boateng, assured the teeming crowd that the NPP will work hard to ensure that Nii Noi withdraws his nomination and rejoins the party as they seek to wrestle power from the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC).

But speaking to Kasapa News, Nii Noi Nortey stated that the NPP appeal is late in the day as his mind is already made up and can’t be changed.

“I didn’t take that decision on my own volition, my constituents reposed trust in me and gave me the mandate to contest and represent them in Parliament. As a leader I have to listen to my followers, the decision to go independent lies with the people of Klottey Korle. For me it’s an honour that my constituents have called on me to come and lead them.”

He added: “I heard the NPP’s plea, but I’ll urge both the NPP and NDC to listen to what the people of Klottey Korle want and do as they have requested. I also appeal to both parties to rally their support behind me so we work together for the progress of Klottey Korle. They know that I’m the only person who can represent their interest in Parliament.”

Nii Noi Nortey emphasized that he’s not going independent because he’s bitter.
