The Member of Parliament for Subin, Eugene Boakye Antwi, has emphasized the need for members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to be allowed to express their grievances following the party’s recent electoral defeat and other unresolved issues.

Speaking on Metro TV’s Good Evening Ghana, Mr Boakye Antwi explained that stifling open discussions could lead to resentment and undermine the party’s unity.

“If people are not allowed to speak, they may go back, plot against the party, and ultimately vote against it. The NPP needs an ‘open heart surgery’ where individuals can air their frustrations. Once this process is complete, we can rebuild the party,” he stated.

Drawing comparisons to political practices in the United States, Mr. Boakye Antwi highlighted the importance of inclusive dialogue within political parties after an electoral loss.

“This is done even in America. The Democratic Party, for instance, engages its members in open discussions after losing elections. It’s a crucial step to bring people together and move forward,” he added.

He also reflected on past experiences within the NPP, recounting how former President John Agyekum Kufuor faced criticism after the party’s defeat to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in 2008.

He criticized those condemning members for holding President Akufo-Addo accountable for the party’s recent electoral performance, urging for a more constructive approach.
