NPP praises Maj Quashigah's contribution to party

Ho, Jan. 18, GNA - There are many unsung heroes from the Volta Region whose contributions continue to profit the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Kenwuud Nuworsu, the Volta Regional Chairman of the Party, said on Monday.

He said one of such heroes was the late Major Courage Quashigah (Rtd), who as National Organizer of the NPP, in 2000 plotted the field strategies and prepared the party's "foot soldiers" mentally, physically, psychologically in military fashion to wrestle power from the then ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Mr Nuworsu said this when he introduced the former Executive Secretary of the Ghana Export Promotion Council (GEPC), Mr Collins Boateng, as the region's aspiring candidate for the position of the first National Vice-Chairman of the party. He said Mr Boateng, who hails from Nkonya, is one of the unsung heroes from the region who had been working hard to bring the NPP to where it is now. Mr Nuworsu said the election of Mr Boateng would help erase the perception that the NPP was anti-Ewe and anti-Volta Region. He said the NPP could not wish away the Volta Region on the basis of the votes it brings to the party which votes nonetheless continues to appreciate in "geometric progression" over the years.

Mr Nuworsu said NPP's failure to win the last election was as a result of the abandonment of structures and strategies as well as personalities whose commitment won victory for the party in 2000 and 2004.

He said very important lessons had been learnt and the regional executive of the party was gearing up towards the 2012 election. Mr Boateng pledged to put his experience and knowledge at the disposal of the party and bring fresh impetus into the leadership. He said the positive side to the NPP's defeat in the 2008 elections was that it would enable the party to re-orient its approach to the 2012 election.
