MR. Yaw Barimah, current New Patriotic Party MP for Koforidua has won the mandate of the Eastern Region Branch of the Party to contest for the parliamentary seat in the area during the December elections.
At a special congress in Koforidua on Thursday, Mr. Yaw Barimah, a Koforidua based legal practitioner who contested with two others, polled a massive 84 out of the total 101 valid votes’ cast by the delegates to win.
The two, Nana Boadi Sarpong alias MABS chairman of the Social Services Committee of the New Juabeng Municipal Assembly, polled 14 while Nana Kwame Nyanteh an Agricultural Engineer polled one.
The voting exercise which was done amidst cheers from the supporters of the various contestants outside the voting room, was supervised by the 1st Vice Regional Chairman, Sub Lt. Christian Tetteh, a former regional chairman Col. l. Kudjiku and the regional secretary of the party, Mr. S. M. Ahyiah, while officials from other regions observed.
The Regional Chairman of the party Nana Adi Ankamah setting the tone for the elections earlier on said the party is bent on winning this year’s elections in order to ‘do something about the external shocks which the ruling government always refer to as the cause of economic hardships in the country’.
He stressed ‘if the government thinks it cannot deal with the so called external shocks we are prepared to do something about it’.
On the disbursement of the district assemblies common fund, Nana Ankamah called on the Serious Fraud Office (SFO) to probe into the matter to assess its mode of disbursement in order to bring those who are found to have mismanaged theirs into book.
He urged party faithfuls to vote massively for the NPP in the constituency so as to win power and give it a befitting status as a regional capital.
In a brief remark Honourable Yaw Barimah thanked the electorate for re-electing him and said he sees it as a challenge to do his best for the party before and after the elections.
