NPP’s Agenda 2016 cost party Election 2012 – Dr Amo-Antwi

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) leadership’s failure to deal with its Agenda 2016, cost the party Election 2012 and not any electoral manipulation by the Electoral Commission (EC).

Dr Isaac Amo-Antwi, an electoral expert, who made this observation in Accra on Thursday, said: “NPP leadership, including its presidential candidate for Election 2012, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, was aware of the activities of some leading members, who were prosecuting Agenda 2016, but failed to take a decisive action against the group.

“Politics is all about getting together with a united front and unity of purpose to achieve the goal of winning votes and winning elections, even with personal difference among the players,

Dr Amo-Antwi, who is the Chairman of the “Friends of Election Management Body,” in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, said the NPP presidential candidate spoke public about the operators of Agenda 2016 during a meeting with some aspiring parliamentary candidate of the party in the Greater Accra Region, but failed to move for disciplinary action.

“Nana Akufo-Addo spoke about this Agenda 2016 with such bitterness and disappointment in his heart,” he stated.

Dr Amo-Antwi also accused the NPP leadership of failing to execute broad based political campaign, especially in the stronghold of the National Democratic Congress.

He blamed the NPP leadership for the defeat, and said: “their actions and inactions caused the party...they are now using the court case as an as face saving mechanism”.

Dr Amo-Antwi said the only way NPP could overcome electoral defeat in the next general election is for all well-meaning members to express themselves openly about the party’s management.

He said: “NPP must stop attacking its personalities, who share divergent views on issues affecting the development of the party...growth of political party depends on occasional feedback”.

Dr Amo-Antwi said the populist agenda embarked by the leadership of the party to attract public sympathy is unhealthy, “after two weeks of brandishing and bragging that the party has evidence its yet to demonstrate to the world its evidence.

“The party cannot continue to hold the rest of the world on tenterhooks, if you have the evidence come out and submit to the Court”.
