NPP's Nii Noi alleges abduction attempt

The NPP's parliamentary candidate for the Korle Klottey constituency, Nii Noi Nortey, has said three men on motorbike attempted picking him up from his residence at Osu on the dawn of Monday.

Speaking to Accra 100.5fm’s Breakfast show – Anopa Nsroma – hours after the alleged incident, Mr Nortey said it was his mother who raised an alarm after detecting some unusual movement on his compound while his family was asleep in the early hours of Monday. The invaders, according to Mr Nortey, fled after his mother blared the alarm.

“People in my area confirmed sighting three men on motorbike speeding away from my house before sunrise into the surrounding darkness,” Mr Nortey said.

He said an unknown person later called his mother on phone asking her to advise her son against his parliamentary intentions.

“The person told my mother that they had come to kill me and the police couldn’t have averted that so, if she wants her son to live, then she should talk me out of my political ambitions,” he said.

Mr Nortey, however, was silent on the details of the demands of his failed attackers, saying he would rather disclose those details to the police and the leadership of the NPP.

The parliamentary hopeful defeated Mr. Philip Addison, lawyer for the NPP’s flagbearer in a parliamentary primary last August. He will be squaring off with daughter of former President Rawlings, Dr Zanetor Rawlings for the seat, which is currently occupied by the NDC’s Nii Armah Ashitey.

His election is, however, being challenged in court by Mr Addison.
