NPP's court action would damage EC's image - Gabby

The Executive Director of pro-opposition think tank Danquah Institute says the Electoral Commission’s image will suffer an irreparable blow once the main opposition NPP drags it before the Supreme Court to challenge the 2012 election results.

The Party has accused the EC and the ruling National Democratic Congress of conspiring to steal the people’s verdict in the December 7 elections.

Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko who spoke on Metro TVs Good Morning Ghana programme on Monday said Ghanaians will thank the NPP for its court action when all is done and settled.

“We will see whether or not the so called integrity of the Electoral Commission of Ghana, that we have all taken for granted, that has been the medal for elections and democracy in Africa will stand up to the scrutiny in court.

He added that “I am telling you, it may be shocking it may be revealing but I tell the people of Ghana that let us all be calm because at the end of the day if we say that this is the exercise we are going to embark on then so be it”.

Presidential Spokesperson, John Jinapor who was on the same show laughed off the concerns of the NPP and cast doubts on its court challenge.

He said the President is looking forward to being sworn in on January 7 to lead the nation for the next four years.
