The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Asunafo South Constituency has issued a statement to distance itself from the attacks on the residence of Member of Parliament for the area, Eric Opoku and some known NDC operatives.

The constituency leadership of the party are calling on the security agencies to investigate and bring the perpetrators to book.

A statement signed by the Communications Director of NPP in the Asunafo South Constituency, Mr Nana Aduse-Poku, copied to MYNEWSGH.com, said the people of Asunafo South were peaceful and peaceful-loving people who were focused on furthering the development objectives of President Akufo-Addo in the constituency, as they were beneficiaries of “One District One factory- the building of a Rice Processing Factory at Noberkaw”, and wouldn’t do anything to give the President any security headache.

“We solidiarise with him on this unfortunate incident and call on the Police to do their utmost best to bring the perpetrators of this obnoxious act to book”, the statement said.

The statement said Sankore has seen relative calm compared to previously under the NDC government, and would work to ensure that the peace and stability they have chalked under the NPP government will continue.

“The party wouldn’t want some of these insipid acts to taint the hard earned success chalked when it comes to the area of security; taking into consideration the atrocities that were happening in Sankore prior to the NPP government coming into power. Sankore is a community as we all know which was always fraught with violence.”, the statement added.

“The District Chief Executive of Asunafo South, Hon. Osei Bonsu Snr since he assumed office has done his utmost best to bring peace and tranquility in the District. This he has successfully achieved with the help of the constituency executives of NPP and our Parliamentary candidate for 2016, Hon. George Boakye”, the statement continued.

“The good people of Asunafo South would want peace so that their economic activities would thrive.
Peace is a priceless commodity and we would jealousy guard it.
It’s our hope that this would be the last time something of this nature would happen in our dear constituency”, Nana Aduse Poku said on behalf of the party in the statement.

The statement said if the name of the constituency should be heard on the airwaves, it should be for the good reasons.

“The DCE, Hon Osei Bonsu Snr with the help of H. E Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has also been embarking on massive infrastructural projects in the District. Talk of the building of a District Assembly block which has been in want since this District was carved out of the then Asunafo Municipal Assembly at Goaso, School blocks and ultra modern toilet facilities at Noberkaw, Dantano and Kukuom. These are the good things we want to appear on air when our District is mentioned in the media and not these insipid acts”, the statement pointed out.

The NPP Asunafo South Constituency statement concluded by re-affirming its confidence in the police service to get to the bottom of the matter and punish those behind the attack on the MP.

“We trust the Police to do a good job on this case.”
