NPP should elect Nana Akufo Addo as party's flagbearer- Mr Nyarko

Mankessim, June 29, GNA - The Vice- Constituency Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for Mfantseman West, has suggested the need for the party hierarchy to present only two presidential candidates, during the upcoming National Delegates Congress.

Mr. Felix Nyarko, who made the suggestion, said Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo should be made the party's flagbearer by popular acclamation, while Mr. Alan Kyeremanteng is made the running mate for the 2012 elections.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency at Mankessim, in the Central Region, he observed that the move would help to combat the bickering and mudslinging often associated with the chosen of NPP presidential candidates.

He said the two personalities could also clench electoral victory for the party in 2012.

Mr. Nyarko said his choice of Nana Akufo Addo as the flagbearer, was that he led the party in Election 2008 and was well marketed. He supported the party's decision to enlarge the Electoral College to minimize alleged cases of corruption associated with the 2008 primaries.

Mr. Nyarko-Antwi appealed to the party to discourage formation of supporting groups such as (friends of.), which he said promote sharp divisions.

"We need unity to annex victory in 2012," he said. He appealed to the party to elect party members like Mr. Kennedy Agyepong, and Ms Frances Essiam and other brave leaders during congress. Mr. Nyarko-Antwi urged the party's foot soldiers to bury their differences and canvas for votes during the 2012 presidential and parliamentary elections.
