NPP should have gone to antoa instead of court – Kofi Jumah

Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Asokwa, Maxwell Kofi Jumah, says the party will remain in perpetual opposition if the Electoral Commission (EC) is not totally overhauled.

He intimated that the NPP has “won every election” in the country including the 2012 elections, but “some corrupt EC officials twist the figures to favour our opponent”.

Kofi Jumah was speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Thursday.

The Supreme Court dismissed an election petition filed by the 2012 presidential candidate of the NPP, Nana Akufo-Addo and two others challenging John Mahama’s declaration as president.

The court by a majority decision ruled that President Mahama was validly elected in the 2012 general elections.

Even though the petitioners were displeased with the court decision, they said they will not seek a review.

But Kofi Jumah on Ekosii Sen said he would have consulted the dreadful “antoa” deity to deal with the EC officials who “rigged” the elections than go to court.

“As a believer of instant justice, those corrupt EC officials would have been severely punished if we[NPP] had gone to antoa instead of court” he stressed.

The former Asokwa MP maintained that the Supreme Court verdict was a “miscarriage of judgment” and has perpetuated an “illegality”.

Kofi Jumah disclosed that he has still not recovered from the “hangover” of the “injustice” done the NPP; and Ghanaians, he says were waiting to be rescued from the shackles of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC).

He stated that the NPP risk losing the 2016 general election if some key officials at the Commission do not resign their positions.

“Until we have true democracy, NPP will never win elections. The democracy being practiced in Ghana is a make-believe pretentious democracy”

Kofi Jumah said the "bogus Electoral Commission" needs to be reformed to restore its dented credibility ahead of the 2016 elections.
