NPP should not politicise national programmes

Begoro (E/R), Nov. 13, GNA - The National Organiser of the National Democratic congress (NDC), Mr Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, has urged the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) to desist from politicising important national programmes like the National Farmers Day.

Speaking to Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Begoro, Mr Ofosu-Ampofo, who is also the Member of Parliament for Fanteakwa deplored the way the District Chief Executive, Mr Ebenezer Ofoe Caesar turned the Farmers Day celebration in the district at Dua Police into an NPP rally with NPP supporters in party colours with their party van at the function and made political speeches to derogate the opposition.

He said even though the nation is in an election period, national functions should not be turned into political platforms. The MP donated a knapsack-spraying machine to supplement the prize for the District Best Farmer, Mr Frank Boateng.

Mr Ofosu-Ampofo called on the government to intervene to help stop the destruction of farmlands by armed Fulani herdsmen at places like Krobo Meryiwa, which is forcing settler farmers in the area and its environs to desert their farms because of threats on their lives by armed Fulani herdsman.
