Former Second Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Sammy Crabbe has accused certain persons within the NPP of fueling acts of indiscipline by the party’s vigilante groups by funding them and dictating their movements.
This he believes turned those groups into a private army of the party.
“It was not good for certain people outside the officer-dom to be controlling those people, it becomes a private army,” he said.
Though the former Vice Chairman declined to mention names, he indicated that these persons “were people all over who were funding them and deciding that they should do what they were doing.”
He admitted that persons within the vigilante groups were party members who were providing security within the party “so they providing security for the officers of the party wherever we went”
He said they use to provide security for the then candidate Nana Akufo-Addo and Bawumia as well as at the party office and they were known within the circles of the party.
According to him, there were some individuals influencing them in one way of the other but the then General Secretary of the party Kwabena Agyapong and the then Chairman Paul Afoko wanted to ensure that there is discipline within their operations.
This, however, led to the suspension of the General Secretary and the Chairman of the party.
Speaking to Kwabena Kyenkyenhene Boateng on ’21 minutes with KKB’, Sammy Crabbe who is eyeing the seat of national chairman of the party stated that what the then executives wanted to prevent started playing out to the whole country immediately NPP won the 2016 general elections.
The Invisible Forces and other vigilante groups with the governing New Patriotic Party have in recent times been involved in several acts of violence across the country including chasing out a judge from a courtroom and breaking free some of their members who were arrested for other acts of violence.
