NPP sure of President Kufuor's re-election

Wa, Sept. 8, GNA - The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has trained more than 100,000 Party officials, to educate the electorate on the need to renew the mandate of President John Agyekum Kufuor in Election 2004. Mr Lord Commey, National Organiser of the NPP, who announced this at Wa, said the President had promoted good governance and the holistic development of Ghana, hence the need for his re-election.

He was speaking at the end of a two-day training workshop organised by the NPP, for 50 Party officials.

Mr Commey said the NPP would continue to adhere religiously, to the rule of law, to empower the citizenry to give off their best in nation building.

Commenting on the symbol of the Party- Elephant - he said: "For almost four years now, the NPP had really delivered positive change and shown how good, sober, patient, tolerant, tough...the elephant can be." Mr Kojo Afari, NPP Press Secretary, said the Party had embarked on a programme to educate the electorate on the need to tolerate divergent political views.

He appealed to the Media to report on the substance of issues and not political rhetoric's that were likely to spark-off violence and instability.

"The Media are custodians of peace and unity in our electioneering process since what is published and broadcast could mar or repair the process.

"If the Media... present objective stories coupled with truth and patriotism the country will move forward in development."
