Director of Communications of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) Yaw Adomako Baafi has slammed the party for being terribly poor at managing information.
According to him, the party has done a bad job at putting out factual information about the dismissal of the former Minister of Energy, Boakye Agyarko by President Akufo Addo, and have rather shamefully joined the opposition NDC party to speculate on the reasons for the President’s decision.
Mr Boakye Agyarko was sacked from office on Monday and was directed by President Akufo-Addo to hand over to the Lands and Natural Resources Minister John Peter Amewu.
His dismissal comes after the President was allegedly misled into approving the new AMERI deal which had been rejected by Parliament through an Executive Order.
The novation and amendment agreement was seeking to buy out the deal Ameri Energy had with the government of Ghana under President John Mahama and handed over to a third party Mytilineos for 15 years. Ghana would have ended up paying over Ghc1 billion under the new arrangement.
The joint committee on Finance and Energy of Parliament rejected the new deal because it had no signatures from the Attorney General and Finance minister.
Commenting on the fallout of the dismissal on Oman FM’s Boiling Point programme Tuesday, Yaw Adomako Baafi urged members of the party to learn to apply wisdom when making public commentaries on such matters.
“One thing that has caused me much pain about this Boakye Agyarko dismissal is that NPP doesn’t know information management. President Akufo Addo hasn’t given any reason why he sacked the former Minister for Energy, he’s not been accused of doing anything wrong. But instead of the NPP leaving the opposition NDC to speculate on reasons for his dismissal, members of the NPP are rather assigning reasons when nothing official has been put out by the Presidency. People are saying its due to his role in the renegotiated AMERI deal. I beg the NPP, we need to apply wisdom in our public commentary, why do we rush into making conclusions when we don’t have the facts to back that. The President has not said he sacked Hon. Boakye Agyarko because of the AMERI deal nor has he said he was misled. We the NPP should be very careful and not create problems for ourselves. The NDC that is chasing us has not stopped running, so why should we rest. We risk digging our own graves. We should be very careful.”
