Two persons, including the Takoradi constituency treasurer of the New Patriotic Party, Mark Ofori, have been shot dead by some unknown assailants at Fijai in the Sekondi/Takoradi metropolis in the Western Region.

A relative of the treasurer whose name has not been given also sustained gunshot wounds in the incident that happened at about 1:00 a.m. on Wednesday.

The relative is said to be responding to treatment at the Effia Nkwanta Hospital where he was rushed for medical attention.

The armed men first stormed the residence of the in-law of the Western Regional Minister, Kobby Okyere Darko-Mensah, where they shot the security man at the post in the head. He later died in the hospital at about 4:00 a.m.

The security man has been identified as Papa Gyaaben, popularly known as Uncle.

They then proceeded to the treasurer’s house which is a few metres away and shot him dead.

One other person in the house said to be his brother, who had a confrontation with the assailants was also shot but survived.

Mark’s laptop was taken away by the assailants but other valuables and personal stuff were left untouched.

Police in the area have visited the scene and commenced investigations but no arrest has been made.

Foul play

Executives of the NPP in the Region are suspecting foul play in the alleged murder case, but say they would leave the police to do their investigation.
