Jackson Prah Darren, a member of the NDC communication team, has predicted the downfall of the ruling New Patriotic Party government.

According to him, there is a strong likelihood that the NPP will end up in the opposition after the general elections in December.

Speaking as a panelist on Hello FM on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, Prah Darren stated that any attempts by the NPP to prevent the NDC from opposing the E-Levy will be futile, as the National Democratic Congress will remain resolute in their mission even after they become the Majority in Parliament after the December elections.

“Should the NDC decide to introduce a private members bill to repeal E-Levy and other obnoxious taxes and it's approved by the Speaker, what makes the NPP think that the number of MPs they have in parliament will still be maintained after the polls? We can still repeal it. Whether NPP likes it or not, they will definitely be in opposition,” he said.

Addressing the issue of the vacancy of four parliamentary seats, Darren accused the NPP of shortening and potentially destroying the political careers of their members who have filed as independent candidates.

He stated that he cannot understand why the NPP is making a fuss in Parliament when they allowed their members to contest as independent candidates without addressing their grievances.

“NPP is behaving more catholic than the pope. Your members complained over their unfair treatment and the issue wasn’t resolved. They asked to leave and you granted them the freedom to go and contest as independents. Now that they have filed as independents, you are back in parliament opposing their decision to leave the party. What they have done to these MPs has shortened their political careers as far as the legislative profession is concerned.

“Also, what they [NPP] have done will largely affect the independent members because they may end up in opposition if they fail to win, which will prevent them from coming back into parliament as a lawmaker,” he noted.
