NPP working to improve performance in VR - Akufo-Addo

Ho, May 16, GNA - Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Flag-Bearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Sunday said the Party was determined to improve its performance in the Volta Region in the 2012 elections.

He was speaking to journalists after a three-hour long, close-door meeting with constituency executives, elected as well as vanquished parliamentary aspirants, in the recent NPP Primaries in the Volta Region.

"This region is our weakest region and we (NPP) are determined to narrow the gap considerably," Nana Akufo-Addo stated.

He stressed that his regional tours were tailored to stimulate oneness of all support blocks within the Party in readiness for the task of winning power.

Nana Akufo-Addo said there should be no complacency among the NPP, while strategizing for the campaign.

While the meeting was in progress, a group from the North-Tongu Constituency pitched camp at the gates of the Catholic Secretariat conference centre, venue for the meeting, noisily protesting the eligibility of the Mr Nicholas Ahiadorme, to stand on the NPP ticket for that constituency.

Madam Christie Okudzeto, the Constituency Research Officer, alleged that polling was manipulated by the constituency executives of the Party in favour of Mr Ahiadorme.

She said she would continue to lead groups to picket at all NPP regional functions in the region until justice was done.

The protestation came to a head when two men from opposite camps traded blows for a short while sending party activists and journalists either scuttling for cover or to separate the fighting comrades.

A party source told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that a petition on the handling of the North-Tongu Constituency NPP Primaries had been received and was being handled.
