Accra, Jan.15, GNA - The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) on Thursday rendered an unqualified apology to President John Agyekum Kufuor and Ghanaians about the manner in which the leadership presented some of their grievances at the Third People's Assembly in Accra on January 7.
The apology was made in a statement issued in Accra and signed by Mr Ken Abotsi, National President of NUGS.
It said: "The NUGS wishes to render an unqualified apology to His Excellency President John Agyekum Kufuor and the entire nation about the manner in which the Leadership presented some grievances of Ghanaian students at the Third People's Assembly on January 7, 2004".
The statement said: "It is important to reiterate, however, that the core issues raised by the Leadership at the forum, particularly the issues of student loans, rebate and especially the reconciliation of accounts remain central to quality education in Ghana".
The NUGS Leadership appealed to Government to re-open fresh negotiations on the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) to demystify the confusion shrouding the Fund by way of reconciling the accounts. "This would help foster cordiality and partnership between Government and NUGS in national development", it said.
