NUGS congratulates Ghanaians for political maturity

Accra, Dec. 10, GNA - The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) on Wednesday congratulated Ghanaians for the maturity they shown during the December 7 general elections. "This shows that Ghanaians are a peace-loving people. We are once again on the verge of achieving another landmark in our nation's history", NUGS said in a statement issued in Accra. It said it was commendable that, both the young and old, poor and rich, Muslim and Christian and all other groups joined the queue and waited patiently in the scorching sun at the various polling centres to exercise their franchise.

"We at NUGS are particularly overjoyed at the conduct of the youth in view of initial concerns that the youth would be used to create chaos," the statement said. The youth, it said, had demonstrated that they were capable of taking the right decision and would not engage in any activities that jeopardized peace in the country.

NUGS also commended the Electoral Commission and its staff for demonstrating that truly the African was capable of managing institutions in a manner that conformed to acceptable international standards. "The peaceful conduct of the polls can be attributed to the transparent manner in which the Commission managed the process that left no room for unnecessary complaints and their concomitant problems", it added. The statement also applauded political parties, the media, security services and the various political party wings in tertiary institutions for putting Ghana first.
