The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) on Friday congratulated the President John Dramani Mahama for emerging winner of the Election 2012 and appealed to the youth not to allow themselves be used by any political party to cause violence.
NUGS also congratulated the government, civil societies, political parties, the youth and the entire people of Ghana for engaging in peaceful elections.
A statement signed by the Coordinating Secretary of NUGS, Mr Naziru Iddris and copied to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) said: “NUGS congratulates Ghanaians for their peaceful conduct in the 2012 election despite tensions before the elections”.
The statement commended the National Peace Council for the role it played in ensuring a peaceful coexistence among stake holders in the elections and the various political parties most especially the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
It appealed to the Council to continue its efforts in promoting peace in the country.
NUGS also lauded the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei II, the security services, the Institute of Democratic Governance (IDEG), Coalition of Domestic Election Observers (CODEO) and all other organizations which played significant roles in ensuring a successful and peaceful election.
“All we have is Ghana and we are one people with one common destiny, let us never allow our political differences to make us enemies against our nation or our fellow countrymen”, the statement added.
