NUGS slams Baba Jamal

The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) has expressed disaffection over a disparaging comment made about the members by the Eastern Regional Communication Director of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Baba Jamal Konneh.

Baba Jamal, in a release following the visit of the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, said “Nana Akufo-Addo, throughout his tour of the Eastern Region, behaved like a student who is contesting for NUGS president.

He was not bold to mention projects constructed under the erstwhile Kufuor administration because the region was seriously neglected under them [NPP].”

The statement did not go well with the current leadership of NUGS and has called on Mr. Baba Jamal to retract the statement with immediate effect and render an unqualified apology to the union.

The Press and Information Secretary of NUGS, Thomas Takyi, in an interview with Akwatia-based Denkyembour Fm,said NUGS had taken strong exception to the statement and urged Baba Jamal to do the right thing as soon as possible.

He added that no NUGS aspirant had ever gone into an election without a clear message and that the statement by the NDC communicator was not only an insult to the student leadership, but also to all students in Ghana who voted for them.

Mr. Thomas Takyi further indicated that the NDC and the NPP could do their partisan politicking but they should not try to bring in the students.
