NVP to elect Flag Bearer in July

Accra, June 13, GNA - The newly formed New Vision Party (NVP) on Friday set July ending for its maiden Special National Delegates Congress to elect a Flag Bearer to contest Election 2008. The Congress would also elect a National Chairman; Vice Chairman; General Secretary, two Deputy General Secretaries; National Treasurer and Deputy National Treasurer; National Organizer and two Deputy National Organizers; National Propaganda Secretary; and two Deputy National Propaganda Secretaries; Prophet Daniel Nkansah, a Founding Member of the Party, told the Ghana News Agency in an interview in Accra.

He explained that in accordance with the Party's Constitution, Electoral Laws and the Political Parties Act 574, Constituency and Regional Conferences to elect officers starting from Greater Accra would precede the National Delegates Congress.

On the qualification of delegates to the national congress, Prophet Nkansah said, the Constituency Conferences shall elect five delegates, who would represent the Constituency at the National Congress. All members of the Interim National Executive Committee, all Founding Members, Members of the Regional Executive Committee, and five representatives of each External Branch qualify to vote at the Congress. Prophet Nkansah, who is also the Founder of the New Vision Pentecostal Church, said the Congress apart from electing a Flag Bearer and National Executives, would approve a budget for the operation of the Party, consider proposals for constitutional amendment, and approve the creation of integral organs of the Party.

On the political philosophy of the Party, he said the Party stood for democratic socialism - "believes in equality and treatment of all persons with respect to their social, cultural, educational, political, religious and economic relations in a multi-party environment".

The 45-year Old Man of God said the NVP was formed based on conviction and direction from God to redeem the country from economic decadence and bad governance and politics of intimidation. Prophet Nkansah supported by the interim National Chairman, Apostle Aaron King, said when voted into power NVP Government would give the aged - 60 years and above and children from birth to 18 years and the disabled monthly allowances.

National Health Insurance registration would be free for them and it would expand and enforce the free compulsory universal education to cover pupils of the Junior High Schools and students of Senior High Schools.

"The creator of Heaven and earth in a revelation to me and to the people of God said that when I am crowned the President of Ghana, the NVP Government shall make sure that workers of Ghana receive better condition of service and with better take-home pay to enable all workers in the country to give up their best in all their various workplaces for better Ghana," Prophet Nkansah told the GNA.

He said a NVP Government within 100 days of coming into power would establish a Special Bank to grant long-term loans with low interest rates to support Ghanaian business entrepreneurs..."adherence to the rule of law; protection and respect for every citizens' rights; provide adequate food, affordable housing scheme, and the basic necessities of life".

On June 6 2008 Mr Kwadwo Sarfo Kantanka, Deputy Chairman of the Electoral Commission (EC) in-Charge of Operations, presented the Final Certificate to NVP leadership in Accra. Mr Kantanka reminded the Leaders that the presentation of the final certificate ended the first phase of formation of a political party and the beginning of the actual work to build the Party. The Interim Executive Officers are: Chairman, Apostle Aaron King; General Secretary, Dan Enu; National Organiser, Mr Eric Lartey; Youth Organiser, Eric Amoafo; and Women Organiser, Hajia Agyara. Apostle King debunked the perception that the Party was formed on religious grounds, saying; "the membership cut across the Christian fraternity, our National Women Organiser and Greater Accra Regional Chairman are all Moslems.

"The fact that some of our Leaders are men of God does not automatically make us a religious political party, we have a broad-based membership, open to all Ghanaians of 18 years and above." He said NVP was ready to win Election 2008 "to liberate Ghanaians and create a just society".

The Party has mauve, white and yellow as its official colours with a lamp in the middle. The Party's slogan is "eye kanea, eye nsroma," meaning "it's Light, it's the Star." 13 June 08
