NYEP begins payment of arrears

Accra, Feb. 5, GNA- The National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP) on Tuesday said it has started paying salary arrears of all workers under the programme.

A statement signed by Mr. Leo Kabah Alowe, National Coordinator for NYEP said it has settled arrears of NYEP Teachers, Health Extension workers, Community Protection assistants working in the Western Region up to December.

It said payment of all extension workers and interns in health institutions started on January 31, adding, "District Employment Coordinators are also collecting cheques for respective districts to pay into the district Employment Accounts to pay beneficiaries". According to the statement, as soon as these initial payments were completed on Thursday, it would proceed to complete all arrears of other workers up to December by February 20.

The NYEP also informed all user organizations to conduct head count of interns within the next few days and to call back interns whose contract have expired to begin another year's contract. The statement urged the beneficiaries of the programme to contact their respective district employment coordinators and regional liaison officers to seek redress for any grievance.

The NYEP pledged sustainability of the programme and called for further support form the media and the general public to relieve the youth from unemployment. Management of the programme further commended all NYEP workers for their hard work and patience.
