THE FLAGBEARER of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the 2012 general elections, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has slammed the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) government for what he described as a catalogue of failed promises following its election into office in the December 2008 polls.
According to the NPP leader, President Mills and his NDC government had failed to honour his better Ghana agenda promise he made to Ghanaians.
“I can say for a fact that President Mills and the NDC do not have any good policies and programmes for the development of the country, hence the retrogressing effects we are seeing today,” he noted.
Nana Akufo-Addo made these remarks when he was hosted on Pure Fm, a local radio station in the mining town of Tarkwa in the Western Region, last Thursday.
Nana Addo was in the region on a thank-you tour, where he held a closed-door meeting with constituency chairmen, regional executives as well as NPP Members of Parliament (MPs) in the Western region.
He told listeners that the NDC described the previous NPP administration as being insensitive to the plight of Ghanaians and promised to make things better if they were voted for, but after assuming office, the cost of living had become unbearable.
Nana Akufo-Addo said the hardships Ghanaians were going through, due to high increase in utility tariffs, was a clear indication that the government had failed.
Touching on economic performance, he said the President had promised Ghanaians “A Better Ghana” in which Ghanaians would have money in their pockets but unfortunately that had not been achieved.
Nana Akufo-Addo therefore called on Ghanaians to show the NDC the exit come 2012, and bring back the NPP to continue the good works it started.
This statement from the NPP flagbearer received a thunderous applause from listeners who had gathered in front of the radio station in their numbers to listen to him.
Nana Addo indicated that the only party that could change the fortunes of the country was the NPP, considering its excellent performance between 2001 and 2008.
He called for unity among the rank and file of the party to work towards a common purpose and urged all its sympathizers to remain focused and work hard to win more floating voters for a resounding victory for the NPP in the 2012 general elections.
When asked to react on the ordeal he went through at the Fetu Afahye recently at Cape Coast, Nana Addo declined to comment and stressed that every Ghanaian had heard what happened, but he would continue to honour invitations from chiefs during festivals and other occasions.
When Nana Addo came out from the studios of the radio station, he was welcomed by a large crowd of NPP followers, clad in party colours and other paraphernalia, amidst drumming and dancing, with the kangaroo dance displayed at its best.
The NPP presidential candidate, who was visibly overwhelmed by the size of the crowd, prevailed upon the people to campaign for peaceful elections in 2012 and asked them to eschew acts that would lead to any chaotic incidents.
He earlier on visited the palace of Nana Kwamena Enimil VI, Paramount Chief of the Wassa Fiase Traditional Area, to inform him of his presence in Tarkwa.
The paramount chief congratulated Nana Addo on his election as flagbearer of the NPP in the next general elections and wished him the best of luck in his endeavours.
