Nana Addo advocates modernised agricultural practices

The 2016 New Patriotic Party presidential candidate Nana Akufo-Addo has highlighted the need to explore modernization in agricultural practices to enhance productivity.

Nana Addo who issued a statement commending farmers for their efforts toward nation building said more must be done to support the Agricultural sector in Ghana if the country were to make significant progress.

“The transformation and modernisation of our agriculture to enhance productivity and guarantee food security are the vital issues of our time. I am confident that with the necessary support and incentives, the Ghanaian farmer will be up to the task,” he noted.

According to him, “It remains an undeniable fact that more than 50% of our population are engaged in agriculture. If, as a country, we are to make any meaningful change in the lives of the people therefore, our efforts must be directed at this sector. The majority of people can only feel a change in their lives when we develop agriculture.”

The 30th edition of the National Farmer’s Day celebration which was held at Sefwi Wiawso in the Western Region on Friday December 5, 2014 saw 70 farmers, including the national best,George Asamoah Amankwah of Europa farms in the Western region, rewarded for their hard work.

The NPP presidential candidate who congratulated all farmers for the commitment on behalf of the party said the role agriculture plays in the lives of Ghanaians cannot be overemphasized.

“Agriculture remains the fuel that powers all our activity in Ghana, and the NPP is indeed proud the good works of our farmers and fishermen, and we congratulate every one of you on this day…

“I congratulate all award winners in this year’s National Best Farmers' Day Awards and I hope that your exploits and achievements would be an inspiration for others to the benefit of the Ghanaian people,” he added.
