The Minority leader in Parliament, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, has reminded the House of powers vested in the Executive (the President) to appoint Metropolitan and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs).
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) during the campaign season said it will recommend election of MMDCEs if elected into power.
President Akufo-Addo has already indicated that Ghanaians will start electing their MMDCEs in 2018.
But the Minority leader on the floor of Parliament Tuesday, March 21, 2017, took the opportunity to remind the Local Government Minister and Parliament that Article 43 of the 1992 Constitution of the Republic of Ghana makes it clear that the president has the sole power to appoint MMDCEs.
He says it would demand am amendment to effect any possible changes to that law since it is enshrined in the constitution.
