The Founder and Leader of the Liberal Party of Ghana, Kofi Akpaloo has alleged that Ghanaians will be forced into some charges by the Nana Addo-led government which will be so “dangerous” for them to survive in the coming months.

Kofi Akpaloo told Peacefmonline.com that he has a first-hand information about some ‘Tax and VAT’ charges the incumbent is ready to impose on the citizenry.

According to him, government is on a mission to tighten the current hardship which is already ‘killing’ the people.

“In fact this government is on a suicide mission. I am highly informed that from October 1, this year, government will introduce ‘VAT with holding’ which is going to be 7% in addition with Tax which is already 8%. This introduction will be outrageous. Government should rethink about this decision or it will frustrate the people,” he said.

His comment comes after President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in an address to the Ghanaian community in New York, USA, monday made reference to the depreciation of the local currency, Ghana Cedi, and conceded that things are difficult in Ghana but his government is working to resolve the economic hardships.

“We have to approach the foreign exchange matter medium to long-term by expanding our supply base, that’s not a crisis . . . they’re difficulties the system would be able to accommodate,” he said.

Meanwhile, Kofi Akpaloo has urged the President and his government to work to resolve the hardships Ghanaians are facing now.

“Businesses are going through hardship already and if this new Tax and VAT charges are implemented, then the country will collapse. President Nana Addo should rethink. We don’t need any additional sufferings. They must work harder to revive the economy,” he said.
