Nana Akufo Addo confirmed NPP candidate for Abuakwa South

Kyebi (E/R), Sept 13, GNA - Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the Member of Parliament for Abuakwa, has said the New Patriotic Party (NPP) had nothing to learn from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as far as governance of the country was concerned.

He said the achievements of the NPP government in three-and-half years could be equated to the 20 years' rule of the Provincial National Defence Council (PNDC) and the NDC.

Nana Akufo-Addo, who is also the Minister for Foreign Affairs, was speaking at the primary of the Abuakwa South Constituency branch of the NPP, after the 89 delegates had confirmed him as the parliamentary candidate by popular acclamation at Kyebi on Sunday.

He said the NPP's programme to get the country's economy back on track was what President J. A. Kufuor's administration was implementing and enumerated a number of achievements chalked since it assumed power. This, he said, included the improvement of facilities for the police, the judiciary and the measures that had made the country to produce the highest tonnage of cocoa in its history.

The National Chairman of the NPP, Mr Haruna Esseku, advised the NDC to thank God if they were able to win 40 parliamentary seats after the December 7 elections.

He said he had been assured that the party would win all the 28 Parliamentary seats in the Eastern Region. ''I will be demanding that from the regional executives of the party.''

Nana Adi Ankama, the Eastern Regional Chairman of the party, denied that the party was distributing gifts to influence people to vote for the NPP and appealed to party activists to work hard to counteract the false propaganda of the opposition parties against the party.

He appealed to supporters of the party in the Abuakwa South Constituency not to be complacent but work hard to prove that the area is really a "political Mecca" of the NPP.

The National Women Organiser of the Party, Ms Rita Asobayeri, inaugurated the Abuakwa South Constituency Women's branch of the NPP.
