President Akufo-Addo and the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, were among the scores of top-notch people who stormed Nkoranza in the Brong Ahafo Region on Thursday to bid farewell to the late Nkoranza Paramount Chief, Katakyie Agyeman Kudom.
Also present at the event were former President John Agyekum Kufuor, ministers of state, members of parliament from the various political parties, prominent chiefs from all over the country, seasoned politicians and people from all walks of life.
Traditionally, the late Nkoranza paramount chief, who attained 90 years, is the son of the Asantehene.
Katakyie Kudom was buried last midnight amidst curfew at the Royal Mausoleum at Nkoranza.
The entire township of Nkoranza and the nearby towns were filled with a lot of people on Thursday who were clad in black attire, mourning the departed traditional leader.
All shops in Nkoranza were closed as a sign of paying homage to the late traditional leader. Virtually all the people in the town converged at the chief’s palace to pay their last respect to their departed chief.
Otumfuo’s Arrival
The Asantehene, who was the chief mourner, was taken to the funeral grounds, amid the firing of musketry, beating of tradition drums and the singing of dirges.
The Asantehene was first taken to where the body of the late chief had been laid in state to pay his last respect. Otumfuo then sat in state at the funeral grounds to receive well-wishers.
President Akufo-Addo was also given a rousing welcome by the mourners, most of whom were seen chanting his name.
The president and his entourage of high-powered government officials, after paying homage to the late chief, proceeded to the funeral grounds to pay homage to the Asantehene, who was surrounded by chiefs and elders.
