National Insurance Commission Office opens in Kumasi

Kumasi Sept 19 GNA - Ms Josephine Amoah, Commissioner of Insurance, on Tuesday called on insurance companies to process insurance claims expeditiously since delays in the settlement of legitimate claims, coupled with unfair claim settlement practices in the insurance industry, was slowly eroding public confidence.

She appealed to all stakeholders in the insurance sector, especially the police, the bar and the bench and medical practitioners, to assist the commission bring quick relief to accident victims by handling their part of the process with dispatch.

Ms Amoah said this when he inaugurated a new office for the National Insurance Commission (NIC) in Kumasi.

She the commission was working hard to ensure that an efficient, fair and stable insurance market was developed to protect the interest of policyholders.

She said in compliance with insurance laws and to ensure efficient customer services, the commission has set up a public complaint bureau where customers could register their complaints as regards unsatisfactory services.

The commissioner said the Kumasi office is to cater for the middle belt of the country as well as increase customer accessibility to their offices.

Mr. Dennis Agyei, a Kumasi-based lawyer who presided, commended the commission for its supervisory role over the insurance companies and said it had brought sanity into the insurance industry.
