Former president John Dramani Mahama has entreated President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to consider appointing the National Peace Council to Chair the inter-party meeting being instigated to totally disband vigilantism in Ghana.

The issue of perpetration of violence by hoodlums has become a menace in the country with more and more groups being formed by political parties.

President Akufo-Addo, in his pledge to fight against vigilantism, stated in the State of the Nation Address that, his office will bring together members of other political parties to discuss the subject of vigilantism and how it can be banned.

While condemning babaric acts by vigilantism groups in the county, John Mahama stated that NDC is more than ready to join in the fight against the menace.

But to have a balanced and fair discourse, he said, the Peace Council and some members of the clergy should be involved in the round-table meeting.

He expressed optimism about the riddance of the menace if the right measures are adopted and implemented.

"We have sent our request back to the president." John Mahama said.
"I believe that if this structures are set up properly then I believe we can make headway." He added.
