National Service Personnel demand increase in allowance

Accra, July 21, GNA- The National Service Personnel Association (NASPA) on Wednesday appealed to the authorities to increase their allowances following the announcement of a new minimum wage early this year.

A statement signed by Mr Sylvester Bekieriya, Vice President of NASPA, said they had been waiting to see their accounts credited with the new allowances without success.

"We are therefore appealing to the authorities concerned to expedite action by the close of work on Friday, July 23, 2004 to avoid any industrial action," the statement said.

The statement said they had been informed that their new service allowance would take effect from July instead of March when the increase reflected in the salaries of civil servants.

"We feel our interest and welfare have been relegated to the background as far as our service to this nation is concerned," the statement said.
