National Youth Employment Programme engages more youth

Hohoe, Aug 23, GNA - The Hohoe Municipal Assembly has engaged 328 youth under five modules of the National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP).

Mr Victor-Hermann Condobrey, Hohoe Municipal Chief Executive, said at the Assembly's meeting that additional youth would be engaged as soon as practicable.

He gave the breakdown as 73 for community teaching, 75 health extension assistants, 165 Zoomlion, Zoil 10 and five under fumigation.

Mr Condobrey said 1,028 hectares of land had been identified under the Forest Plantation Development Programme with 400 hectares of the land approved for 400 youths to plant.

Under the Millennium Challenge Account, he said about 500 hectares of land at Gbi-Kledjo would be irrigated and a steel bridge constructed over River Dayi to cost 553,000 Ghana cedis to facilitate access to irrigated lands.

Access roads from Gbi-Atabu to Fodome, Tafi Abuife-Vakpo-Jordanu, Logba Alakpeti-Sovie Kudzra, Alavanyo Kpeme-Kpando Konda and Ve junction-Leklebi Dafor would be constructed under the NERICA Rice Project roads.

Mr Condobrey said work on the Hohoe town roads are progressing steadily.

He said a 1,000 sewn school uniforms had been distributed among public institutions in the Municipality and additional 2,000 pre-cut materials would be given to tailors and seamstresses for sowing.
