A political aide to Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Kofi Tonto, has clapped back at the National Democratic Congress, arguing that nations are not like phones or devices to be reset.

He posited that, instead of a total reset, as suggested by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Ghana needs to build on its successes while fixing its challenges.

In a debate with the NDC’s Deputy Communications Director, Malik Basintale, Mr. Tonto argued that “A nation is an amalgamation of many things.

The positives and the negatives. The challenges and the successes.

The duty of a government is to build on the successes while fixing the challenges.”

Unlike phones, nations cannot be reset. “A Nation is not a phone to be reset. What we expect of a government is to identify the challenges, work on them and then build on the successes it has chalked,” he further stressed.

Mr. Tonto could not fathom why the NDC, which has been in opposition for 8 years, would consider the idea of a ‘reset’ as a viable campaign slogan.

Mr. Tonto further quizzed, “The country has trained 5.7 million children under the Free SHS programme, are you going to reset that too?

Are you going to reset all the successes?”

He expressed confidence that his government has successfully navigated the challenges marking a turnaround.

He spoke on the Accra-based GHONE TV.
