Nator-Duori gets school block and desks

WA, Nov. 10, GNA - SIDSEC, a non-governmental organization operating in the Nadowli district of the Upper West Region, in partnership with the Canadian Feed the Children organisation, has constructed a three classroom-block with 120 dual desks for the Nator-Duori community. This brings to 12 the number of communities in the district that have benefited from education facilities from the two organizations. Inaugurating the school block at Nator-Duori, the Executive Director of SIDSEC, Dr Boye Bandie, said his organization believed that every child deserved a sound education to succeed in life.

The objective of the intervention, he stated, was to increase enrolment, retention in school and the performance of children and expressed the hope that the facilities would be put to good use. Dr Bandie observed with regret the poor maintenance culture of the people and urged School Management Committees and Parent Teacher Associations to ensure that the facilities were well maintained for future generations to also benefit.

Mrs. Grace Bonye, Nadowli District Director of Education said despite the problem of inadequate teachers in the district, the performance of the pupils was not bad.

She said volunteer teachers had been recruited to teach at the schools, adding that more training was needed for that category of teachers to enable them give their best.
