Ho, Dec. 10, GNA - Mr Joseph Kwaku Nayan, sole NPP Member of Parliament (MP) from the Volta Region, has retained his parliamentary seat. By his victory Mr Nayan, Deputy Volta Regional Minister remained the only NPP MP among 22 MPs from the Volta region.
Mr Nayan, who won the seat in 2004 with 6,178 votes, this time polled 9,426 out of 21,676 valid votes.
He beat Dr Joseph Kwabena Nianboah-Rockson NDC, 8,680 votes to second place. Dr Nianboah-Rockson polled 3,678 votes in the 2004 elections when he stood as an independent candidate. Mr Solomon Kwame Bachabori, independent, Mr Nayan's former close political associate, came third with 3,241 votes followed by the CPP's Mr Emmanuel Kwadjo Gmanab with 306 votes.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency in an interview Mr Nayan said he has always been a listener to everybody from the time he was an assembly member, Presiding Member and as a parliamentarian. "I am prepared to listen to anybody. I am humble, an introvert and not proud", he said.
Mr Nayan said his constituents were appreciative of his role in the creation of the Nkwanta-North District and constituency and the development projects taking place in the new district including water supply from Damanko to Kpassa which would benefit six communities along the way and electricity supply.
Mr Nayan called on his constituents to vote for Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, NPP presidential candidate, in case there should be a presidential run-off.
Nana Akufo-Addo polled 9,807 votes in the presidential election as against 10,334 votes for Prof John Atta Mills of the NDC.
